Times just now are very hard for many people with even the most basic items seeming to rise in price on almost a weekly basis. And with manufacturers and supermarkets taking advantage of the recession to not only raise prices but decrease the size of these very same items, planning the weekly - or monthly - shop has almost become a science.
However there is a solution which can dramatically reduce your shopping bills. Buy food that is past its best before date.
This is important: The date to look for is best before. Do Not Use food after its use by date as it could be hazardous to your health. Shops are not only not allowed to sell food which is past its use by date, they are not even allowed to give it away. That point is important to remember.
Best before dates are completely different. To quote a Food Standards Agency spokesman ( quote from The Sunday Post ) "best before dates ensure food quality, and are the dates within which the food will retain its specific characteristics. It is not illegal to sell food after its best before date "
But where do you get food that is past its best before date? There are two companies who have entered this niche market, Approved Foods ( http://www.approvedfood.co.uk/ ) & Food bargains ( http://www.foodbargains.co.uk/ )
They both have a wide range of food at bargain prices. Occasionally you will come across an item that is still in date but most of these bargain foods are past their best before dates but are perfectly all right to eat.
Remember: If its past its use by date throw it out as you could be putting your health at risk.
