It's the end of Britain!. Financial markets will collapse! What can the newspapers be talking about with those and other depressing headlines? A third World War? Potato famine? No, they are reacting to the possibility of a 'hung' parliament after next weeks's General Election.
But it is just utter rubbish to be so negative to a possible coalition government. Other countries have managed very well with what could be called ' a government of consensus'. Indeed the same fears were apparent when Scotland found itself in just such a position, but in practice those fears have been found to be way off the mark, with the Government working very well indeed.
A coalition government has many positives. All parties have to work together for the good of the country with the lack of a large majority for any party meaning that very unpopular policies can't then just be forced on the population. At it's very best it also gives the country the advantage of the very best talent of all the parties and the best policies of each.
