European Championship Result: Scotland 2 Liechtenstein 1
You might have to read that a couple of times to really believe it. The Scottish national football team has had many disasterous results over the years but this one was so close to being the worst ever. The winning goal came six minutes into injury time ( the referee was originally only going to play five ).
Nobody nowadays expects the 'minnows' of Europe to be beaten by the huge scores that they used to be, on a regular basis but when there is so many places between teams in the World rankings there can be absolutely no excuses for such an abbysmal performance.
I was one of those people who saw Craig Levien as the ideal man to be Scotland manager but his negative tactics against Lithuania, playing only one striker up front, against one of the 'weaker' teams in the group has shown he has little adventure or ambition.
How many successful teams in Europe, at league, European or International level play with only one striker up front, very few, if any. To win anything of note managers, and teams, have to have at least a modicum of adventure.
Unless the Scotland manager finds some of that most important ingredient, and quickly, then Scotland have no chance of reaching the finals of the competition.
