How often have you heard English politicians tell other countries of the UK that they should think of the UK as a whole when they are making decisions.
It appears to be another matter however when it is the other way around. It has been reported in the Sunday Post newspaper that many of the world's top sportsmen may not appear at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 because of a hypocritical stance by the UK government.
When International stars appear at events in the UK they are taxed on income from endorsements and sponsorship but the government has granted exemption to competitors at the London Olympics in 2012 and for the World Cup in 2018 if England are successful in their bid for it. But the Commonwealth Games has not been included in this. Of course it is not being held in England. And it seems they don't have to consider the UK as a whole when decisions are made.
Another example of this is the National Lottery. Money is being raised through that to help fund the Olympics in England but i am not aware of any such fundraising for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
If we are one nation surely our Government should treat us as one.
